I have decided to realise my little dream - I am starting a personal website. It will not only be my personal portfolio and blog. It will be my own digital garden where I will realise my creative ideas and explore different directions of user experience.
Objectives of the website
Fighting perfectionism
Creating this site will firstly be a little therapy of getting out of perfectionism and waiting until the whole project is perfectly polished before publishing.
Lately I’ve had a lot less time than I’d like. I’ve even given up writing my coffee newsletter (although I hope to get back to it soon). I’ve also postponed starting to record podcasts.
With less time, I’m dividing the work into small chunks. I’ve come to believe that a marathon is better than a sprint, and I’m trying to improve small things every day. Over time, very tidy results come out of the sum of these small changes.
You can expect something to change slightly with each visit.
Learning accessibility
Accessibility is a very important topic in User Experience. I learnt a bit about it when I worked at the Central IT Centre. Unfortunately, after that I didn’t deal with it as much. Now I want to change that and get to know it in depth.
I believe that people learn best by applying knowledge directly to projects, so I will be applying the knowledge I gain directly to the code and content of this website.
Presentation of my portfolio
I have changed jobs quite rarely, so the question of portfolio has always been pushed to the background (in which designer is not…). I am happy to share the knowledge I have gained over the years of my work. I have worked in many places and done many projects. It’s worthwhile for me to talk about my biggest lessons in the UX area.
Additionally, I’ll be dabbling in all sorts of redesigns of current solutions and in-depth analyses of them. I already have a couple of sites and tools in my sights that I think could be optimised, or better thought through. I think such thought experiments are valuable, and you can use this analytical approach later on in your projects.
Technical issues
I build and host the entire site myself. If you’re interested in which technologies I use, come to the blog in a few days. I’ll describe then exactly which tools and frameworks help me.
